Warren Special Recreation Association provides leisure and recreation activities for adults and children with disabilities. Enhancing abilities in enjoyable social settings is a goal of WSRA programs. Participants learn new skills, practice sports, dance and sing with friends and take advantage of WSRA’s large variety of programs. WSRA is a cooperative of three park districts and one township: Gurnee Park District, Grandwood Park District, Warren Township and Wildwood Park District.

Brochures are published three times a year outlining our weekly programs, social clubs, camps, special events, and support groups.

Residency Requirements

Residents of Grandwood Park, Gurnee, Warren Township, and Wildwood are considered in district. Others may attend programs at increased costs.


Aquatics

Class tailored to individual ability. Improve skill, maintain endurance by swimming laps, or become comfortable in an aquatic environment. WSRA staff teach swim techniques and basic water safety.


Autism / Parent Support Group

Increase awareness regarding children diagnosed with Autism or Pervasive Developmental Disorders and create network of information and support for their families.


Golf Club

Six week program to learn basic rules of golf, terminology and safety.

Start Date: Wednesdays      

Prime Time Club

Special events and outings. Movie theatres, local restaurants, shopping malls, sporting events, dances. Ages 21 and older.

Start Date: Fridays      
Cost: Varies by event.

Rocket Basketball

Special Olympic team meets weekly for training. Skills, teamwork, sportsmanship are program goals.

Start Date: Tuesdays      

Sign Language Class

Learn finger spell, count, sign words and sentences through games, songs and stories. Class types: Children’s ages 5-12, Beginning ages 13 and older, Advanced age 13 and older.

Start Date: Mondays      

Strikes & Spares

Bowling at Brunswick Zone, Lakehurst Bowl. Special Olympic training optional. Ages 18 and older.

Start Date: Thursdays      

Swim - Monday Family

Families swim in therapeutic pool. Pool shared with other swim programs.


Swim - Preschool

Introduction to supported floats and beginning arm & leg movements leading to rhythmic breathing and swim skills. Pool time shared with other swim programs. Children in diapers must wear plastic pants and swim diapers. Ages 3-6


Swim - Wednesday Family

Families swim in therapeutic pool. Pool shared with other swim programs. Children in diapers must wear plastic pants and swim diapers. All Ages


Swim - Youth

Swim lessons include underwater swimming, introduction to the front and back crawl, and elementary swim. Individualized goals. Pool time shared with other swim programs. Children in diapers must wear plastic pants and swim diapers. Ages 7-10.


Teen Club

Special events and outings. Movie theatres, local restaurants, shopping malls, sporting events, dances. Ages 12-20.
